About Us
Why COED Exists
For many students in disadvantaged circumstances, education is both a beacon of hope and an unattainable goal. Often painted as the great equalizer and the key to open many doors of opportunities, education – most notably college and beyond – has increasingly become a privileged option for only the few. This is especially true in developing countries like the Philippines, where education is buried beneath other pressing priorities like food, shelter and daily survival. Yet without education, the prospects for a better future are few or nonexistent thus creating sustained poverty and stagnancy for both the individual and the country.
Our Mission
COED was created to provide financial and professional support to deserving yet underprivileged students who could not otherwise afford higher education. This support will come in the form of a fellowship that includes a full scholarship at a college institution, followed by an externship or internship in the chosen field, and a lifetime access to a mentoring network of academes and professionals.
Our Vision
Beneficiaries of COED fellowship will in turn join a network of mentors and benefactors to create opportunities for future fellows. COED envisions a community that invests in the future by investing in education and people who value and believe the power of education to uplift and advance the future. As one English philosopher once said, “the aim of education is not only knowledge, but action.” COED seeks to move people into action to alleviate poverty through education.
